About the PROPEL Scholars Program
PROPEL (Promoting Opportunity and Equity in Learning) is a donor-funded initiative in the Division of Social Sciences at UC Santa Barbara that supports undergraduate students through academic, financial, and community-based resources.
Our Mission
PROPEL empowers Social Science majors to thrive academically, personally, and professionally by providing structured support, financial assistance, and a strong cohort-based community.
What PROPEL Provides
PROPEL Scholars benefit from a comprehensive support system designed to promote long-term student success:
• $5,000 annual scholarship
• Personalized academic planning toward on-time graduation
• Regular advising and progress check-ins
• Career exploration and professional development
• Social events and cohort community building
• Access to faculty, staff, and peer mentorship networks
To remain in good standing, scholars are expected to maintain academic progress toward a four-year graduation plan, meet GPA requirements, attend (2) workshops per quarter, and engage regularly with program staff and advising resources.
Community & Impact
PROPEL is more than a scholarship program. It is a community designed to ensure students have the resources, mentorship, and support systems needed to succeed at UCSB and beyond.
